CFS Open Juried Show, Etobicoke Civic Centre Gallery, November 2015
oil, pastel, print
I was born in Holland and immigrated to Canada with my family when I was five years old. Although I was always drawn to the arts, I studied sciences at university and graduated with a doctorate in Chemistry from the University of Toronto.
Although I am primarily a self-taught artist, I have studied drawing and painting with a number of well known Canadian artists at both the Haliburton School of the Arts and at the Toronto School of Art, including Harold Klunder, John Leonard, V. Jane Gordon, Peter Kolisnyk, Joanna Nash, Brian Smith and pastel artist Ursula Reese. I also studied printmaking with Otis Tamasauskas, Moira Clark and Stephanie Rayner.
Strongly influenced by my love of stained glass, I like to use bold lines and bright colours in my pastels and paintings. I am also interested in fabric arts, and have exhibited embroidered drawings, paintings and tapestries.
My work has been accepted into numerous juried exhibitions, and I have exhibited frequently in solo and group shows across the Greater Toronto Area.
I am an elected member and current Past-President of the Ontario Society of Artists. I am an elected member and a Past-President of the Colour and Form Society. I am a signature member of Pastel Artists.ca, and hold the designation of Master Pastellist. I am also a member of Headwaters Arts.
My works can be found in the Government of Ontario Collection (Archives of Ontario) and private collections in Canada, Germany and Chile.
