73rd OPEN JURIED EXHIBITION
Congratulations to all participants
The winners are in!!!
First Place - Sohyun Kim
“Loss”

Jurors' Comments: We were drawn to the originality of this painting's subject matter and the artistic vision being expressed. While anchored in a cruciform composition, a rhythmic flow has been created through the use of colour and shape. We especially noted that the work is thought provoking and open to multi-layered interpretations.
Second Place - Colette Begg,
“Tangled Understories”

Jurors' Comments: Excellent handling of warm and cool temperatures and complementary colours. We liked the linear movement created throughout the work and the sense of layering and depth.
Third Place - Peter Schacht,
“Giants in our Neighbour’s Yard #4”

Jurors' Comments: We found the use of materials highly innovative and the meandering patterns created by the ash boring beetle serve to move your eye though the work as well as provide depth and weight.
Honorable Mentions
Mary Elizabeth Duggan, “About Face”

Jurors' Comments: An ambitious work in seven parts, each of which could stand as a separate painting given the strong rendition of values and line. The negative spaces between the paintings also add an important visual component that enhances the work overall.
Cathy Earle, “Orange Kimono”

Jurors' Comments: We appreciated the excellent watercolour technique in this work and the artist’s use of an overhead vantage point. Lots of visual interest is created by the various patterns and surfaces.
Diana Hillman, “South Shore”

Jurors' Comments: An interesting balance of sky, land and water in this well composed work. The artist has effectively captured the play of light and atmospheric perspective in each of those three components.
