Artist Spotlight

The Colour and Form Society is excited to introduce a brand-new website feature for 2026:

Artist Spotlight — a special showcase celebrating the talented artists within our society.

Every two weeks, a different artist will be featured with a selection of their artwork, a personal biography, and insight into their creative journey.

You will have the opportunity to explore a wide variety of artistic styles, mediums, and inspirations while discovering the unique voices behind the art.

Be sure to visit regularly to enjoy the ever-changing collection of featured artists, and follow their creative paths through the social media links provided, when available.

Introducing the Artist Spotlight...

Mara Smelters Wier

My name is Mara Smelters Wier, born in Scarborough and living for many decades now in Muskoka. In 2013, I started painting under the tutelage of Susan Irons Ware in Gravenhurst. I started in watercolours but have added oils to my practice. With watercolour, I paint on paper but I also love the looseness of painting on yupo. In oils, I paint on canvas and board. My work has shown at various galleries around Ontario and I have also curated a show for Muskoka Arts and Crafts. My subject matter is generally animals, people, interiors and still lifes with a twist. I love whimsy and colour and feel that painting gives me the chance to constantly learn and improve. I love the focus it brings and the way it changes how you look at and see things.
