Members' Exhibition 2023

This exhibition representing the artwork of 57 of our members was exhibited at Neilson Park Creative Centre Gallery in Etobicoke from April 17 to May 7, 2023.

It is now featured here on the CFS website for viewing.

FIRST PRIZE - Joanna Turlej

YOU ARE HERE
Paper Collage on Gallery Canvas

This collage, entitled "You Are Here" incorporates illuminated pathways into its composition with an S-shaped composition that creates an elegant flow throughout. The artwork glows with ethereal quality in its landscape.
The artists has created a sense of movement and direction, drawing the viewer's eye through the piece to the main glowing forest area at the end of the curve.

The artwork has a sense of tranquility and serenity as if the viewer has been transported to a peaceful oasis amidst the fresh and vibrant colours that radiate with intensity. The use of light and shadow creates a sense of depth and dimension further enhancing the visual appeal of the artwork. "You are Here" is a beautiful example of contemporary collage.

DAY DREAMING

"Day Dreaming" ignites the imagination with its layers of paint and underpaintings that peek through the scraped lines.

The gestural calligraphic lines, drawn with brushes and some possibly with water crayons, add depth and dimension to the piece.

Both the collaged textures and lines add to the movement in the composition, creating a sense of energy and dynamism. The muted colours enhance the vibrancy of the strong reds and blues, and golden yellows, in its triadic colour scheme that is both bold and harmonious.

This painting has an intuitive movement. The brushstrokes seem to dance across the surface, creating a sense of rhythym and flow that gives the impression of moving to music.

DAWN

The painting titled "Dawn" is a poignant symbol of the ongoing struggle that women in the Middle East are facing. The artist has captured the essence of this struggle through a combination of both realistic and abstract elements.

The realistic portrait is beautifully painted, with the subject gazing directly at the viewer, leaving no room for indifference towards the message that she conveys.

The artist has juxtaposed realism and bold abstraction to create a powerful visual representation of the constraints and challenges. Her use of abstraction emphasizes the harsh reality of the situation. This painting is a strong example of the power of art to convey important messages and inspire change.

CONFETTI BREAKFAST, PARIS

This whimsical watercolour painting, titled "Confetti Breakfast, Paris" captures the lively essence of Paris culture.

The room is transformed into a magical wonderland, where every corner holds a new surprise. Colourful confetti-like shapes dance around the room. More colours on the placemats, plates and cups as well as on the chair adorned with triangles, circles, and colourful spokes, add to the overall charm of the piece. The shiny table subtly reflects the beautiful array of colours all around it.

The painting has an energetic movement, making it a captivating everyday scene that transports you to the heart of Paris.
