Welcome to the 71st Annual Open Juried Exhibition.

This year the Open Juried Exhibition took place at two Gallery locations

in the Art Hub of Mississauga, along the Lakeshore.

from November 3 to November 17, 2023.

FIRST PLACE

We were initially struck by the tension in the composition and the intentional erasing of the faces in this painting. The muted palette is beautifully restrained yet cohesive with the raw painting style which helps to convey the emotional message being depicted in this piece.

SECOND PLACE

INDIGO AND SUN KISSED GREEN

The simple yet dynamic composition of this painting struck us as a very unique landscape. Particularly the horizon line and the visible brush strokes. The deep hues contrast so well with the light streaming through the trees. It invokes the feeling of being deep in the forest.

ONCE UPON A TIME THERE WAS A WHALE

The flow of the composition in this painting shows a strong sense of harmony. The imagery clearly tells a story through the fractured shapes. The blended colours and simple complimentary palette unifies the work in a sophisticated painting style.

Although being painted in such a small frame, the impact of this painting is very dynamic. The use of light and shadow and the confident loose brush strokes reflect the quietness of the subject matter.

The focal points of this painting kept our eyes moving around the entire work. The tension is purposely directed. The tonal use of a primary palette is striking.

The uninhibited focal point appearing from behind the leaves gives us the feelings of peering into a magical space meant only for the viewer. The shapes emit a spiritual quality which we loved.
