Sherry Park has been awarded the Michelle Jacques Juror’s Choice Award in the Salt Spring National Art Prize. The winning painting is “LUNCH”. (oil on canvas; 30 in x 40 in) The Award Winners Exhibition will take place January12 - February 12, at the Victoria Arts Council, Victoria, B.C. and the Pendulum Gallery, Vancouver, February 14-March 11, 2022.
The painting is a tribute to Sherry’s parents and their story is told briefly in Sherry’s art statement about this piece: “...they left their home in Korea with me and my two older brothers to start a new life in Canada. My parents went through a lot of hardship trying to make a living to support the family. Through the years they survived turbulence and conflict in their marriage. My mother to the end took care of my father until his death recently. The simple image of them eating together shows their love and commitment to each other."
